About Yellow Creek State Park

Yellow Creek State Park is located in Indiana County, one of the first of its kind in the United States.

The trail is used for hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, camping and other outdoor activities, as well as hiking.

Today, US 422 roughly follows the old Kittanning Path and provides main access to the park from Indiana and Ebensburg. The park is named after the yellow and small yellow stream that forms the lake. This stream has a lot of yellow clay on the banks and in the ground and is the source of the name of the stream.

In 1969, a dirt and rock dam was completed to create a lake of 720 hectares, and 2,981 hectares of parkland were purchased. In 1982, 159 hectares of developed land were purchased and in 1983, 2.81 hectares of the park were purchased for a total of 1.8 million hectares.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the park has been offering and accommodating holiday homes, with the exception of a short period from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s.

Unless otherwise stated, the entire 800-foot beach is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except weekends and public holidays. The beach is accessible by boat, canoe, kayak, paddle board or other means, and there are no lifeguards in use. When a lifeguard is not in use, the rules of swimming must be read and followed, as must all other regulations.

Pets are not allowed on the beach except for children under 18 years and adults with special needs such as dogs and cats.

Yellow Creek Lake, which covers 720 hectares, has boat moorings and small beaches on both the north and south shores. Boats staying in the park are allowed only with a special permit, and passengers must carry personal buoyancy gear with the permission of the US Coast Guard to ensure safety. We offer rowing boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, rafts, canoes, fishing boats and kayak rental.

All non-motorized boats must have one of the following boat registrations in the state: All motor boats must have a boat registration in that state.

A limited number of charcoal grills have been installed, but visitors are encouraged to provide their own barbecue. Three picnic pavilions can be reserved for $11 per month against advance payment, and there are no unreserved picnic areas. First-time visitors are served first, and free of charge - because on the beach, all picnic tables and chairs are available.

Open fires are not allowed in the park, and each picnic area has three modern toilets, as well as a water fountain and a hot tub.

Pets are allowed in the daily use areas, but must be kept on a lead, checked and cared for at all times and stored in the park office. The Laubeerweg is a 0.5 km loop that starts from the park office and leads around the north shore, the North Boat Barbaring. Two small picnic areas are located on the south shore of the lake, near the beach entrance, with a water fountain and a whirlpool and a picnic area.

This easy hike is especially beautiful in spring, when there are many wild flowers and the high path is lined by a small stream and some small streams as well as a series of small ponds.

To get to the path, start at the beach and follow PA 259 south of the park office. The Damsite Trail is located on the east side of the trail and offers views of Yellow Creek and the dam.

The road ends in a small parking lot where the Damsite Trail begins, and near the southern footbridge there is a well-maintained area for sledding and sledging. Turn right at the stop sign and take Hoffman Road (second right) and turn left onto the road.

The designated area consists of forest and open fields, and registered snowmobiles are allowed on an area of about 350 hectares. If you decide that the hills are more inviting and demanding, look for a hiking area that lies between the beach and the day-to-day use area. The area is still under an old fence, but it is not far from the Damsite Trail.

You are welcome if you want to explore the park on skis or snowshoes, and although a special area and a special system of trails for winter sports has been developed, it has not been abandoned.

From 1 April to 31 October, educational programmes for the public will be offered in the Environment Learning Room at the Dragonfly Pond. A programme of activities is available at the Park Office and from April to October every first Saturday of the month from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Curricula and environmental education programs are available for schools and youth groups, but group programs must be agreed in advance. Yellow Creek State Park is located off PA 422 in Ebensburg, Indiana and is accessible to the public by bus, car, train or bicycle.
