About Damon Point State Park

Damon Point, a 61-acre park, is located at the southeastern tip of the Ocean Shores Peninsula. The park consists of a 1.5 km long stretch of coast that stretches to the sea.

Damon Point is one of the last breeding grounds for sea lions in the United States. The park was used as a recreational area for the public, as well as a venue for events and events for visitors.

Damon Point State Park on the north side of Mount Pleasant Road offers scenic views of Mt. Pleasant and Mount Vernon, as well as the city of Monterey and the bay.

The park is open all year round - for daily use only, but there is a limited number of parking spaces for private use and camping. This site is home to one of the few remaining sea lion nesting sites in Monterey County and has the largest population of sea lion nests in the Bay Area.

When sand accumulates over the years, it can cause erosion, but on land where there is no sand, deposits occur - the opposite of erosion. Point is a model of accreditation in the country and it is one of the best examples of accreditation in California.

From 1925 onwards, the S.S. Catala sailed in Canadian coastal waters in front of miners, loggers and adventurers. The Catala was used as a floating hotel and shut down in 1958, but a winter storm in 1965 brought the ship to the ground at Damon Point. Sand gathered around the rusty relic and eventually buried it under it, but oil was found in the hull in April 2006. A winter storm in February 2006 brought to light wreckage and the remains of an oil and gas tank.

The Department of Environment coordinated efforts with contractors and state, federal and local authorities to safely remove the oil. Visitors to Damon Point State Park were urged to stay away from the wreck and maintain stability around the site.

The park has a picnic area on the west side of the park near the entrance to Damon Point State Park, and visitors are encouraged to pack their garbage when they leave the site. The picnic areas serve as a first stop for visitors to the National Park on their way to or from the shore.

A detailed history and photos of the site are exhibited at the Damon Point State Park Visitor Center on the north side of Damon Park.

Stone collecting is a popular activity at Damon Point, as is the one-mile hike to the top of the point. At this point, vehicles may not enter the street through the underwash, but visitors may enter through a gate and walk to and from the end of the road. Up to six vehicles can be parked directly in front of a park entrance, up to four vehicles in the parking lot behind the entrance gate.

Damon Point State Park and Hoquiam Harbor State Parks are located on the west side of the State Park, south of Port Orchard. Take SR 109 or SR 115 to Ho Quiam Point (Brown Ave) and continue south to Point Brown Avenue and then north to the entrance gate.

Leave the park entrance in the parking lot of Hoquiam Harbor State Park south of the Port Orchard entrance gate and enter Damon Point State Park.
