About Blake Island State Park

Blake Island State Park is home to the Blake Island National Wildlife Refuge and is the only national park in the U.S. with a total area of 1.5 million square feet of land offering a variety of hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and other activities.

Blake Island offers a variety of outdoor activities in Tillicum Village, including hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and other activities. The Tillicum Village on the island and the concessions offer a wide range of food and beverages as well as a range of activities for children.

Visitors can enjoy a grilled salmon dinner cooked in traditional Indian style while watching Northwest Indian dances or dining with a traditional dish of rice and beans.

The highlight of the park is the 5 km long coastline with views of mountains, volcanoes and the Seattle skyline. The park is open all year round for tents and day use, and free for camping for a fee of $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

A seven-day night curfew will apply from 5 to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 6 to 9 a.m. on weekends and holidays, with no overnight restrictions.

The underwater park is formed by the Wadden Sea and Bettland and is located on the west side of Blake Island State Park, south of the coast of Black Island.

Chief Seattle was born there and it is believed that the naval explorer Captain Charles Wilkes named the island after George Smith Blake, who commanded a ship for the US Coast Survey from 1837 to 1848. William Pitt Trimble acquired it at the turn of the century and renamed it Trimble's Island before turning it into a magnificent private estate.

After his wife was killed in Seattle in 1929, Trimble returned to the estate and the property became Blake Island State Park in October 1974. The foundation of the house is still standing, although it was itself destroyed by fire, and it still stands.

The Cascadia Marine Trail is located at the western end of the island and Tillicum Village offers a snack bar only in the summer months. T-shirts, tents and equipment are available in the park, but camping is prohibited in the winter months due to the high temperatures and strong winds.

The original land is on the south side, but the place is only suitable for canoeists and kayakers.

Campsites are served first and fees vary according to group size, but group camps are available for groups of less than 250 people without reservation.

Daily and annual permits are available, and mooring fees are levied for docks, floats and buoys, and boat pumps are also available. Electrical services are available at the docks for a fee, but no electrical services are available at the docks. The park has a number of boat ramps and jetties, as well as a boat ramp and a buoy access point for boats.

The shelter on call can be reserved from 8 am to 5 pm. M. on weekends and from 9 a., m.-17 p.M., Monday to Friday and 7a, m-4 p, Saturday and Sunday.

Indigenous plants along the trail and the history of the Trimble estate can be seen on a sign on the site of a former Trimble estate.

Collecting firewood is not allowed on the island, but firewood can be purchased from the local fire department or other local businesses.
