About Fay Bainbridge State Park

Fay Bainbridge State Park is one of the most popular and largest in Washington State. The park has sandy beaches, cascading mountains and two volcanoes, and offers a variety of water activities. On a clear day, you can see Mount Rainier and Mount Baker from the sandy beach.

The nearby Old Man's House is located in Seattle's tribal area and is one of the oldest buildings in the state and the only one in Seattle.

The park is open all year round - for camping and is open for tent and day - with tents available for day use for $5 per person, $10 per day and $15 per night.

A bell donated by the Kitsap County Historical Society stands at the entrance to the park. The bell was brought to the area in 1883 by Captain Jeremiah Farnham of San Francisco and has been ringing ever since, announcing important community events for the citizens of Port Madison.

In 1944, the park was bought by a couple, S. and Fay, for $1.5 million, a total of $2,200 in today's dollars, and purchased in 1944 by the couple's son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Fay.

The park has two supply points, one for campers under 30 feet in length and the other for over 30.

The supply site has only water and will accommodate a motorhome up to 30 feet in length, but no site will require a motorhome larger than 30 feet.

Check-in is 14: 30, check-out is 13: 00, and quiet times are 22 - 00 and 06 - 30. Tents are the first to arrive, but the length of stay will be extended as long as you can stay at least three days or up to six months. A motor-powered electric generator will operate during the day and at night, with a maximum capacity of 1,000 kilowatt hours.

Two anchor buoys are available to secure your boat: one overlooking Puget Sound and another buoy on the west side of the park. There are two parking spaces, one for tents and one with sheltered picnic tables, which are available upon reservation. Mooring permits are available for all berths in the park, but no mooring fees are charged for moorings, floats or buoys.

Park visitors can walk several kilometres along the beach at low tide, and groups of up to 50 people can be accommodated there. Reservations are not charged, but reservations are possible by calling 206 - 842 - 3931.

For swimmers, Puget Sound has water temperatures of over 50 degrees Celsius, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and other recreational activities. The hotel is located on the west side of the park, south of Lake Washington, about a half-hour drive from the beach.

Cross the Agate Pass Bridge on the west side of the park, south of Lake Washington, at the northern end of Fay Bainbridge State Park.

After three miles, you will come to a traffic light on Day Rd, turn left and drive approximately three miles to the T-junction. Turn left onto Sunrise Drive NE and continue until the driveway is approximately 1 mile away. Turn left at the traffic lights on Day Road NE and turn right into the parking lot of Fay Bainbridge State Park, then right again onto the road.

The Seattle - Bainbridge Island ferry goes straight on at the T-junction of Day Road NE and Sunrise Drive NE, south of the park.

Drive through town until a large brown sign points you to the park, then turn left onto Sunrise Drive NE and drive approximately 2 miles to the T junction. Turn right onto Day Rd and continue to a ramp about two miles from the ferry terminal on Bainbridge Island.
