About Lewis and Clark State Park

Lewis and Clark State Park is a 621-acre camping park on the eastern edge of Lewis & Clark National Forest in Clark County, Washington. The landscape of the park is characterized by a mixture of old forests, grassland and grassland, as well as a large number of small streams and streams. It is the oldest national park in the USA and the only one of its kind in the state of Washington. During the Civil Conservation Corps, the park was the home of the first Civil War - campgrounds from the time of the colonial masters and many of these erected buildings are still used today. At the beginning of the 20th century it was a growing forest with a population of more than 1,000 people.

The park is open all year round - for camping, but it closes on October 1st and reopens in April and closes in October for the winter months, and it reopens in April.

The campsites are closed in winter, but they are open all year round, except in the summer months, and the campsite is closed in winter.

Special caves have been created around Lewis and Clark State Park to create cooling lava for Mount Rainier. The caverns are currently used to store natural gas and supply water to the park.

Lewis and Clark State Park, which is actually separate from the Lewis & Clark Trail, began as a public storage facility for cars and tourists in 1922. Two years later, more than 10,000 people visited the park each year, and by 1922 it had a public parking lot, picnic area, amphitheater, mountain bike trails, Mount Rainier Park and a hiking trail.

The old Oregon Trail, which stretched from a landing on the Cowlitz River to the town of Tumwater, led directly to the current park grounds. When the pioneers used the road, ramps had to be built to bridge fallen logs, and they had no saws to cut the giants.

Two thirds of the old trees have been felled, and there are only a few dozen old growth trees left in the park. The park had to be closed for several months to make repairs and behave as the forest ages, but there are still many old trees.

The John R. Jackson House nearby is the first American pioneer house to be built north of the Columbia River. It was built in 1845 by the man who was named after him, John Jackson, the founder of Columbia County in Washington and a pioneer.

The original house was completely ruined and the present log cabin was built in the 1930s by the Civil Defence. The Jackson family donated the original pioneering artifacts on display in the cabin, as well as a number of other artifacts.

The maximum length of the park is limited to 60 feet, possibly due to limited availability, but the park has a maximum of 50 feet of hiking trails and at least 30 feet for canoeing.

Two groups of campsites are reserved and prices vary according to the size of the group, with the first being a campsite and the second a campsite.

Check-in is at 14: 30, check-out is at 13: 00, and quiet hours are from 22: 00 to 06: 30, but the length of your stay will be extended. The camps have a capacity of 50 people and include campfires, picnic areas, picnic tables, running water, showers and toilets. The park offers the possibility to stay overnight at one of two campsites, one in the morning and one in the evening. A motorised electricity generator is operated from the campsite, which provides an output of 1,000 kilowatt hours per day.

One is available on a first-come-first-served basis, while the other can be reserved at 360 - 864 - 2643.

The park also offers a playground with rocking horses and June is the month of juvenile fishing, where children up to 14 years can fish the creek.

The Lewis and Clark State Park parking lot and visitor center is located on the west side of Interstate 5, south of the Columbia River. Take Exit 68 and head east on the freeway and you are at the intersection of I-5 and Interstate 90, about half a mile north of Lewis.

Drive approximately two miles to the entrance to the park and turn right onto Jackson Highway and drive south on the highway for approximately one and a half miles until you turn left onto Columbia River Road and drive approximately two miles.
