About Pricketts Fort State Park

Perched on a small hill overlooking the confluence of Prickett Creek and the Monongahela River, this rustic log fort is a replica of the original Pricksett Fort from 1774, which served as an operations base for the US Army Corps of Engineers during the 1812 war. Built in 1976 by the PrICKETT Fort Memorial Foundation, the new fort serves as a living historical place where interpreters recreate a late 18th century lifestyle. During the season, visitors can find out about the seasons in a gun shop that sells a variety of firearms and ammunition, and observe birds of prey, birds, animals and other wildlife in the area.

The fortress is covered with tree trunks and the ground is lined with weathered walls of 16 tiny huts. The common camp is filled with conference rooms for the camp, with a fireplace, a fireplace and a picnic table, as well as an open fireplace.

When the threat of an Indian insurgency came, 80 families from the surrounding area rushed to the fort, and although life in the cramped quarters could have been uncomfortable, the settlers tolerated it. Such sacrifices were necessary to survive on the dangerous frontier of the late 17th century. Although the threats persisted, there was enough food, water and shelter for the colonists and their families, as well as their horses and horses.

The present fort north of Fairmont still shows the life of the time and is named after Jacob Prickett. South of this fortress is the Job Prickerett House, built in 1859 by the great-grandson of a captain for his wife and children.

The house is registered on the National Register of Historic Places and contains a variety of antiques originally used by the Prickett family. The large collection of mass furniture and other items of the house illustrates the rich history of the fortress and its use of furniture from all over the world.
