A short drive from Fairmont and Grafton is Valley Falls State Park, a 1,145-acre park covering 2.5 acres. The 1,145-hectare park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, as well as fishing, camping and hiking.

The beauty of the park is enhanced by the foaming waterfalls created by the rushing waters of the Tygart Valley River, which forms the border between Marion and Taylor counties. The predominant rock formations, known as practiced sandstone, form the cap to the waterfall, while the river staggers and swirls, appearing in a series of cascades that form at the foot of Valley Falls State Park.

In 1886 and 1888, fires and floods raged in the community, and Valley Falls experienced a boom. Before it became a state park, this section of the Tygart Valley River was an important source of drinking water for the town of Tipton and its inhabitants.

The city never fully recovered and repairs were needed to the city's water supply and sewerage system, as well as roads, bridges and roads.

The state park system acquired the waterfalls and surrounding land in 1964, and the scenic river canyon became Valley Falls State Park. Today it is a place of natural beauty and historical
importance and is becoming increasingly popular with domestic and foreign visitors.

An extremely steep side is followed by an otherwise almost flat ridge on the west side of Valley Falls State Park, south of the park entrance.

Take Exit 137 and then 310 South for 7 miles, then turn left onto the west side of Valley Falls State Park. Walk two miles from the park entrance and turn right at the intersection of Route 310 and Route 137 onto the freeway and head south.
