About Devils Lake State Park

Take State Highway 33 and turn left south on State Highway 123 and drive two miles into the park, then turn right into the parking lot at Devils Lake State Park.

Turn left onto Highway 159 and drive approximately one mile into the park, then right onto State Highway 123 and left into Devils Lake State Park. To reach this park from the parking lot, turn south at the intersection of Highway 163 and Highway 160 and enter the park.

The park has more than 880 plant species and more than 1,000 species of trees, shrubs, grasses and other plants. Devils Lake State Park, the largest national park in New Jersey, is located on the east side of Devils Lake, about 1.5 miles south of the city of New Brunswick.

At the end of the lake there is a picnic area, which is only open from 6 am to 8 pm and visitors must stay on the designated path. Pets, food, drinks, fire and tents are prohibited and the area may only be open between 6: 00 and 20: 00. A variety of enclosed shelters such as picnic tables, fire pits, picnic chairs, tents and other enclosed accommodations can be rented.

The park also has an 8 km long cycle path, and Teufelsee has a 2.5 km long cycle path from the lake to the end of the park. Reservations are accepted for the entire park and a number of other parts of Devils Lake State Park.

A state-issued hiking pass is required to use the mountain bike trails, but there are no official asphalt roads or cycle paths, although many people like to cycle several kilometres from the asphalt road to the campsite.

The trail starts on the Steinke valley meadow and then winds through oak, ash, hickory and maple forests. In winter the path changes to a winter beach and then back to the main path, which starts at the park entrance.
