About Hartman Creek State Park

Hartman Creek was established as a national park in 1966 and was once a small creek where a dam was built to create a spring lake. The park is located in the terminal moraine of Wisconsin's Glacier, and the potholes and gullies in the springs that feed the lake make summer an excellent time to visit the park.

All four lakes offer calm waters for paddlers and anglers, and gas engines are not allowed in any of these lakes. Perch, perch, blue fish and other panfish have a good chance of success in Hartman Creek and the other lakes in the park.

The spillway at the beginning of Hartman Creek is at the eastern end of Allen Lake, and the moorings, which are also accessible to the disabled, are located on Whispering Pines Road, just south of the park entrance. The beach is a combined changing and toilet building with picnic area, picnic tables and picnic chairs. Hartmen Lake has two marked bathing areas, one for adults and one for children, as well as some picnic areas.

The park also borders Allen Lake, which is located west of Hartman Creek at the intersection of Whispering Pines Road and Allen Creek Road and Hartmen Creek Lake.

The picnic area has a stone staircase that leads from the floating dock at Lake Marler to Whispering Pines Road, where paddlers can stop by at the picnic table. Paddlers can start in canoes or kayaks and paddle to Lake Marler, where they can take their time to explore the depths of the crystal clear lake. The lake allows gas engines, but ships are limited to low guard speeds.

Hartman Creek State Park has 101 family campsites with 101 pitches and is open in winter on a first come on basis. The campsite is located on the west side of the park, just off Whispering Pines Road and is dazed and safe to camp.

Allen Lake Picnic Area is a short walk from the campsite and on a walkable footpath. This picnic area is a beautiful 30 hectare property that was given to the park in 1977. Reservations can be made online or by calling 888-947-2757 or in person at Hartman Creek State Park Visitor Center.

There are no rental fees, but special group rates may apply and vehicles require a parking permit. The apartments can be rented during the day or at night at the Hartman Creek State Park Visitor Center (888 - 947 - 2757).

Hartman Creek is located on the west side of State Park, just east of Lake Michigan in the town of Hartman, Illinois, about 30 miles west of Chicago and within the borders of the states of New York, New Jersey and Wisconsin.

The park extends to the county line between Waupaca and Portage, and all motor vehicles entering the park must have or had a Wisconsin State Park badge.
