About Hendy Woods State Park

The park is located in the middle of the Anderson Valley wine district and is known for its fallen sequoias, the work of a man known locally as Hendy Woods Hermit. The park has self-guided discovery trails, the Navarro River runs along the length of the park and is home to a variety of wildlife and a number of hiking and cycling trails. It is a popular destination for hikers, mountain bikers, birdwatchers and hikers of all ages.

In addition, along the Navarro River there are 25 picnic areas where you can buy picnic areas and picnic tables.

A two-kilometre nature trail leads visitors to Hendy Groves, both large and small, but stays on the trail while hiking so that the forest floor retains its beauty for future generations. Visitors are asked not to collect wood in the park as pruning material is required to provide the surrounding vegetation with humus. Charcoal and charcoal - logs are available at the ranger station, wood chips and charcoal for camping.

Fishing is allowed, but fishing in the park has not been allowed for several decades, and fishing is only allowed in limited numbers during the summer months, such as weekends and public holidays.

Swimming is popular in the summer months, kayaking and canoeing in late winter and early spring.

The park also offers a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing.

The weather can be changeable, so layered clothing is recommended, as well as a pair of shoes and a hat and sunscreen.

The two redwoods on which the park was built bear the name of Joshua P. Hendy, who first claimed this beautiful area at the end of the 19th century. He found something about the tranquillity of this moss-covered and encrusted forest that promised more than the inner bark of these giants could ever uncover through a seaquake - an axe. True to his word, he was right, the land was his land, and the trees were never damaged, which is true to his word.

After the death of Joshua P. Hendy the grove was sold and there was never an order to attack the giants standing there. Demand for timber was high and California was growing, so the giant trees were picked up outdoors and hauled to a mill. The wood was cut from the sides of the larger forest and cut into the side of this large forest.

Hendy Woods was sold to Californians in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and became one of the state's most beautiful parks. The park is located on the west side of San Francisco Bay, north of Los Angeles, California.

If you're lucky enough to drive through Hendy Woods State Park on your way to or from San Francisco, you can be anywhere in the world without experiencing the hustle and bustle of the modern city center.
