About Rocky Bayou State Park Aquatic Preserve

Rocky Bayou is a state park and aquaculture reserve in the state of Texas, which is part of the Texas State Park System. The reserve is designated as such in order to preserve the biological resources within the area and to maintain these resources in an essentially natural state.

The scenic reserve borders wooded wetlands, and the Bayou receives fresh water from the San Jacinto River and its tributaries, as well as the Rio Grande River.

The reserve provides food and habitat for numerous fish and wildlife, and several designated species are found within the reserve. Bald eagles are active for up to five years and produce offspring, as well as a variety of birds of prey such as bald eagles, falcons, peregrine falcons, owls and other birds.

The reservation's water borders the plateaus and is a popular place for recreational activities, bounded by the Rocky Bayou River and its tributaries, as well as the Rio Grande River.

Gannon manages nearly half of the plateaus adjacent to the reserve, which helps cushion the impact of water quality, according to a press release from the park.
