About Deer Lake State Park

This park shares its name with the dunes of the lake within its boundaries and is located on the west side of Deer Lake State Park, north of Lake Erie. Visitors can see the coastal dune habitat where you can see a variety of animals such as birds, birds of prey, fish and other wildlife.

The promenade along the dunes offers a beach where visitors can picnic and swim as well as picnic on the beach. The 11 natural communities that are located within the park also offer a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, camping and much more.

Located in Deer Lake State Park, north of Lake Erie, Ohio is the largest natural community in the state.

The park includes 11 different natural communities, including a stream, a confluent tidal river, an estuary and a freshwater lake. Deer Lake State Park is a 1920-acre facility named after the largest lake in Ohio State and the second largest in Ohio after Lake Erie. The Gulf of Mexico is accessible from the main entrance of the park at the northern end of the lake, as well as from a beach at the southern end.

The park is home to a variety of plants and animals, and the Blackwater Brook is lined with azaleas.

Summer wildflowers can be purchased at the main entrance of the park as well as at a number of other locations.

In ponds, plains, forests and streams, rose petals and spoonbills can be found in ponds and swamps along Camp Creek. Gold asters cruise high above the dunes on the beaches and dunes inland and in the creek. Rare plant species include Gulf Coast lupines, which live along the path without disturbance, sand hills, articulated weeds, wild flowers, grasses, shrubs, trees, bushes and other plants.

The sand grass of Florida is found in Deer Lake in the sand dunes along Camp Creek and along the banks of the Creek and on the beach.
