Welcome to the Nez Perce National Forest. This vast and diverse area is managed to offer a variety of goods and services including hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, recreation and wildlife management. The forest has something for everyone, with a wide variety of species, from wild flowers and wildlife to wild plants and animals of all kinds.

Known for its wild nature, the forest is best known as Nez Perce National Forest, one of the largest national forests in the United States.

Nearly half of the forest is designated as wilderness and it is also home to the Nez Perce National Wildlife Refuge, the largest wilderness area in the United States.

The National Forest of Nez Perce (NPNF) was established by the Executive Order No. 1. 854, signed by President Theodore Roosevelt, on July 1, 1908. This decree, which came into force on 1 July 1908, established the forest on land abandoned by the bitter roots of the white forest. The Ni Mii Pu, later dubbed the "Nez perce Indians" by Lewis and Clark's expedition. It is the second largest national forest in the United States after the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

It is a name that represents the rich heritage of the Nez Perce and the history of their country, culture and traditions.
