About Ferdinand State Forest

Ferdinand State Forest is considered one of the most beautiful forests and lakes in the state of Indiana, and the founding of the Ferdinand State Forest marked the beginning of a new chapter in Indiana's history of forest conservation. In 1933, a local conservation association raised enough money to buy 900 hectares to build a lake and a hunting and fishing area. The Indiana Department of Conservation was offered to manage the project the following year. CCC workers built the lake in 1934 and then set up a warehouse for the Civil Conservation Corps (CCCC).

Ferdinand's family have been in the area since he was a teenager and he has been a regular visitor to the area.

Primitive camping (class C) is possible for a fee, but there is vaulted toilets and seasonal drinking water. Camping is possible at any of the campsites, please register at the stand at check-in and be the first to be served.

The beach is open, but swimming is only allowed on the Ferdinand - seen beach area and there is no swimming pool, only a small pool with water slide. Toilets, changing rooms and showers are available to visitors, there are a number of picnic tables, picnic benches, a picnic table and picnic area and a fireplace.

Fishing is allowed, but a valid Indiana fishing license is required, as is rowing in Lake Ferdinand and boating in the Ferdinand River.

A valid hunting licence is required, but hunting includes deer, elk, elk, wolf, coyote, fox, pheasant, raccoon, bird of prey, squirrel, owl, bat and other wildlife.

There is a picnic area and a cabin for day use, and picnic tables and barbecues are located in the picnic areas.

The playground and the horseshoe pit are located on the beach, and in front of the cabins there is also a picnic area and a picnic table.

Many people of German origin live in the Ferdinand area, including Germans from Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Germany and the United States. Ferdinand Staatswald offers a variety of hiking, mountain biking and hiking trails. Mountain bikes are only allowed on designated trails and only on trails in the forest.
