About Owen-Putnam State Forest

We like to hunt deer, squirrels and turkeys and go for walks in the best deciduous forests in the country.

The property consists of many scattered plots in the south, but due to the scattered nature you should be careful and not enter private property. Drive through the beautiful hills of southern Indiana, overlooking 50-foot sandstone cliffs, fish in one of the many ponds, or hike or cycle along the trails.

Developed areas include the Owen-Putnam State Forest and Oak Ridge National Wildlife Refuge, as well as a number of other areas in the area.

The campsites are available and equipped with a variety of amenities, such as fireplaces, picnic tables and water stations. Rattlesnakes and riding tents do not have drinking water, but you can get it by registering at the stand near the campsite and serving it first - too.

Hikers and riders should wear hunting orange or light coloured clothing such as hunting boots, hiking boots and hiking gloves on the trails during the hunting season.

Owen - Putnam State Forest must have a valid annual horse pass and ride along the trails. Pleasant Grove Pass passes the old cemetery and then a small section of the Old Cemetery Trail east of Pleasant Hill.

Owen - Putnam State Forest offers 6 km of mountain bike trails, but mountain bikes are only allowed on designated trails.
