About Grand Gulf State Park

Grand Gulf State Park, often referred to as Missouri's Little Grand Canyon, offers visitors the opportunity to admire a variety of natural wonders. From canyons and caves to natural bridges, there is much to see and do in this state park. The 322-acre park features a series of collapsed cave systems, a waterfall and a natural bridge over the Grand Gulf River.

Part of the cave's roof forms the Grand Gulf River Gorge, the largest of its kind in Missouri, which stretches over 200 feet. The path, promenade and viewpoints are designed so that visitors can view the gorge from the edge of a cliff and descend into it, sometimes without endangering their environment. Besides the caves, the Grand Golf extends for almost a mile across the river, with gaps becoming deeper and wider through a series of canyons, cliffs, rock formations and other natural features.

Visitors can also take several hiking trails to explore the gorge from above, and outdoor exhibits tell the story of the Grand Gulf and help onlookers understand how it came to be. There are three picnic areas under trees and picnic tables are scattered among the trees to enhance enjoyment while you explore this designated National Natural Monument. A shady edge to the golf course is available during the day and there is a picnic area under a tree.

Camping is not allowed on the grounds of the park, there is no running water and only vaulted cabins, but there are a large number of picnic areas with picnic tables, a picnic area and a picnic table.

Grand Gulf State Park offers picturesque views of the Gulf and features a 1.5 km waterfront path connected by four platforms with views. The Grand Gulf River Trail, a 2 km trail from the park entrance, is also possible, as is the parking lot.

Guided tours of the Grand Gulf can be arranged in advance with a tourist assistant and include the history of the park and interpretative talks. The tour answers questions from visitors and includes the history of the park, interpretative discussions and a short history lesson.
