About Pershing State Park

en. John J. Pershing attracted visitors as a teenager and continues to draw them to the park. Visitors can see a gently sloping highland forest overlooking the Missouri River, Mississippi River and Arkansas River. Wildlife watching and naturalistic walks provide a more intimate view of nature than any other national park in the United States. The park's 1.5-mile hiking and biking trail allows visitors to take a look at a Missouri suburb.

The park offers a variety of options for visitors who want to enjoy scenic views of the Missouri River, Mississippi River and Arkansas River. Camping: Shady campsites with picnic tables, picnic areas, waterfalls and picnic area.

Four small lakes and Locust Creek offer anglers the opportunity to catch a variety of fish. The four lakes, along with the Arkansas River, Missouri River and Mississippi River, form one of the most popular fishing areas in the state of Missouri.

Pershing State Park offers a variety of special used campsites as well as a number of camping facilities. Services include landfill, showers, water, laundry and reservations. A small sandy beach is located near the picnic area and is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

There are no toilets and toilets in the picnic area, and no minimum stay is required.

Four small lakes offer fishing opportunities for perch, blue fish and catfish, and fishermen can also try their hand at fishing for oxhead, carp and drum at Locust Creek. There is a launch pad, but no canoes or boats with electric motors are allowed, so swimming is at your own risk.

Open accommodations are available on First Comcome, First Serve basis and can be reserved for $40 in advance. Closed accommodations cost $45 per day and require reservations, but open accommodations, closed picnic accommodations and other facilities are located in the park. These accommodations do not have play equipment and are open to the public for a limited number of days a year, from 1 July to 31 October.

The trail leads from the natural levee of Locust Creek to the Fountain Grove Conservation Area, where hikers and backpackers can experience the creek's habitat. Part of the project is a 60-foot suspension bridge linking the park to the nature reserve. The bridge is designed to cross a steep, cut-through creek bed and has proved itself so well that it has also been used on other sites in the Ministry of Nature Conservation.

The Canfield Savanna Trail runs along a long ridge overlooking the swamp, and the Oak Ridge Trail connects to a campground and picnic area. The Oak First Trail connects the picnic campgrounds with the Canfields and other trails in the park, as well as the Fountain Grove Conservation Area.

The pathway circles the lake, and guided hikes are available on request. Conservationists in the park offer nature activities during the summer months or contact the park office for more information at 660 - 963 - 2299.

An exhibition along the waterfront gives visitors an impression of the suburban landscape in northern Missouri and describes the wetland complexes in the park. A promenade leads visitors to the top of a viewing tower overlooking the remaining wet prairie, which covers nearly 1,000 hectares.

The best way to explore the wetlands and see wildlife is to take a walk along Locust Creek, which winds through a series of wetlands on the west side of Lake Pearsall, south of St. Louis.

Pearsing State Park is located on the west side of Interstate 35, south of the Missouri River, and the main facilities are located two miles south along the freeway. The park is located in the heart of St. Louis County, about an hour and a half north of downtown, near the intersection of I-55 and Interstate 70.
