About Barnegat Lighthouse State Park

Ships sailing between New Jersey and the New York coast are considered one of the most dangerous routes on the Atlantic coast. The shifting sandbanks, shallow water and treacherous currents challenge the skills of even the most experienced sailors. Ships sailing from New York along the New Jersey coast are careful to avoid the shallows that stretch along this coast, as well as the dangerous currents and shifting sand.

Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is an important nesting spot for many bird species that can be seen from the shore, as well as the lighthouse itself. The park is listed on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Register of Historic Places, and the program, run by the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife, provides a comprehensive list of birds and other wildlife species in the park. This provides a critical habitat for a number of endangered beach birds such as sandhill cranes, sandpipers, sea lions and sea otters.

The park is also a great place to see wintering waterfowl, and sponsors several programs for watching waterfowl in winter. For more information on the park's bird watching programs, please contact the Park Office at (609) 494-2016 for the current timetable.

A self-guided tour through the forest dominated the forest on the north side of Lake Barneveldt. It is a breeding ground for birds of prey and a place for migratory birds to feed and feed, as well as a breeding ground for wintering birds.

Saltwater anglers can behave on the picnic area where they can catch striped bass, bluefish, whitefish, redfish and other fish.

The picnic area is also accessible for disabled people and they are granted access to fishing. Two picnic tables also offer picnics and two picnic tables are located at Barnegat Inlet, where visitors can picnic, relax and watch the watercourses.

Sunbathers and fishing enthusiasts can picnic on the beach and on the jetty, but fire, propane gas stove and alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is home to the largest and most beautiful lake forest trail in the world, one of the largest of its kind in the United States. It is dominated by forest and is a breeding ground for many bird species as well as a place to feed and breed. Seew Waldwege are a series of self-guided circular trails with a total length of 1.5 kilometers.

The beloved Barnegat Lighthouse was illuminated in 1859 and still shines with a single beam of light that is visible 22 nautical miles. Over the years, new lights have been created, enabling it to be illuminated at night for the first time since its original illumination in 1850.

In 1927, the original lens was removed from a light ship mooring off the coast of Barnegat and replaced with a new lens. The original is still visible from the coast, as is the new light, and even from New York City and New Jersey.

At the top of the lighthouse, visitors can enjoy views of Barnegat Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and New York City, as well as the Hudson River. The lighthouse is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but open on weekends and public holidays from 1 pm to 4 pm. Memorial Day and Labor Day have a $1 fee per person, and $2 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Children under 12 years of age are free, but must be accompanied by an adult and must travel with their parents or legal guardians.

The Interpretive Center tells the story of the Barneveld Lighthouse and its history, from its beginnings to the present day.

Visitors can learn more about the changing coastline and natural environment surrounding the lighthouse, including the history of the Barneveld lighthouse, its history as a tourist attraction and its current status. A gallery of historical photos gives an insight into the life and times of the Lighthouse Community of New Jersey. The pictures show how many opportunities people have used and enjoyed the resources of our region and tell their story.

For operating hours, please call the park office at 609 - 494 - 2016 or call the Barneveld Lighthouse State Park office in person.
