About Penn State Forest
The undeveloped wilderness of Penn State Forest attracts picnickers and hikers, and the treetops can be viewed from a standing position. Lake Oswego, created by an upstream dam to create a cranberry reservoir downstream, is suitable for canoeing and fishing. The central region of the pine wagon includes several pine and oak forests, which resemble the surrounding forest. Pygmy Forest is a forest that contains trees that, when mature, can only grow about four meters high.
Many researchers believe that this unique stunted forest ecosystem is partly due to the Pinelands "fire ecology. New Jersey is home to one of the rarest forest communities in the world to be seen in this part of the Penn State Forest. Take Route 563 to Lake Oswego Road in Jenkins Neck and follow it for 3 miles.
