HECeta Head State Park, which includes Devils Elbow State Park, is located in the bay at the mouth of Cape Creek. A picnic table sheltered from the wind by a windbreak on the shore of the bay of Heceta, a popular spot for picnics and outdoor activities.

The Heceta Head Trail is part of a 7-mile network of trails, and the recently completed trail offers scenic views of the bay and a short walk that leads to a picnic table and picnic area at the mouth of Cape Creek in Devils Elbow State Park.

From the beach to the wilderness, hiking trails of varying difficulty are offered. The island's wildlife offers a variety of bird nesting sites as well as a number of other animal species.

The light at the top of the 56-foot tower has been lit since 1894 and is considered the strongest light on the Oregon coast. The automatic beacon can be seen up to 21 miles from land, with a range of 1,500 feet and an altitude of 2,000 feet. Sea lions and whales can be seen from the lighthouse, as well as sea lions, sea turtles, dolphins, whales and other marine mammals. With a population of more than 1.5 million people, this lighthouse is one of our most photographed on the coast, especially in the summer months.

Ordinary marbles laying their eggs on bare rocks are easily recognizable when looking over the railing of the lighthouse. Built in 1893, the Devils Elbow State Park Lighthouse offers a unique view of one of Oregon's most popular tourist attractions, Devils Elbow.

Brown pelicans often fly by, bald eagles too, and migratory gray whales can be seen from the lighthouse to the Pacific. Perhaps a good time to look out for migrating mothers and calves on their way to the coast.
