Imagine spending an afternoon kayaking in the Bay of Nehalem and then taking a short walk through the dunes to the beach. Sit on your blanket and watch the sunset over the ocean or cuddle in the shade as the ocean waves sing a lullaby. The singing of the seagulls wakes you up, and the next morning you wake up with the sound of the waves on the shore and the smell of salt water in your ears.

Nehalem Bay State Park is one of the most popular state parks in Washington state and a great place for a day trip or weekend getaway for many visitors.

But if you look more closely, you will find many opportunities to get active, such as hiking, cycling, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and of course hiking and camping.

With breathtaking views of the bay, fitness and animal lovers will enjoy the 1.75 mile bike path around the runway for the park's aircraft. Crayfish and fishing in the Bay of Nehalem are popular, and a variety of birds also decorate the parks. On the way to or from your campsite , you will probably see deer, elk and coyotes running across the road.

In neighboring Manzanita and Nehalem communities, upscale restaurants and local boutiques offer a change of scenery in the park, and Northwest Equine Outfitters operates a horse concession. Why not spend a day on a guided walk or a beach excursion or improve the peace of the parks by walking on the beach at the end of a moonlight footbridge?
