About Champoeg State Park

The Champoeg National Historical Area is unique in combining nature and history. The Champoeg Forest and the fields of Champoeg recreate the landscapes of an era bygone by being just west of Newberg. Oregon's first provisory administration was established here in 1845 by historical election. In 1865 it became a thriving village of 200 and washed out by floods. This rich history is reflected by its listing in the National Historical Register. There is so much to see here. Explore walking trails along historic sites and along the river.

Champoeg is located on the south bank of the picturesque Willamette River and takes you into the landscape of a bygone era. This guided walk will take you through what happened in the bustling and groundbreaking city of Champaign and how the Donald Manson Barn was built.

Next to the visitor centre is an 1860s-style garden planted by the historic Donald Manson Barn, the first of its kind in Oregon and one of the few in North America.

The park also includes the Butteville General Store, founded by Frenchman Francis Xavier Matthieu, who played a key role in creating the original Champs-Elysees, a popular musical comedy. Italian Lemonades and Lemonade , it also sells a variety of foods, such as hot dogs, hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as wine.

Living History and now accepts applications for programs running from March to mid-June, as well as summer camps for children.

Champoeg Campground

Champoeg State Historical Park is located within County Marion along the South Willamette River south of Portland and some miles south of Wilsonville. This area includes forests and wetlands. It is the site for Oregons earliest government of 1843. There's a few old buildings in the neighborhood. Visitors can hike, visit native plant gardens or visit historic sites. Champoeg Campground has eight well-maintained camping sites. Full hookups are provided on eight sites, while electricity and water are provided on 67 sites. 6 additional camping areas are designated for walking and camping sites.

How much is parking at Champoeg State Park?
Parking permits costs $5 a day for a vehicle. These are valid for 24 hours. Annual permits are available at $30. Visitors can buy a day pass that is good for four days of parking, while it costs only $7 per day.

How do I get to Champoeg State Park?

From US-99E take the Main Street exit in Newberg and follow signs. From I-5 take exit 221 toward Newberg. Follow OR-219 for 5 miles and then turn right on Champoeg Road.
