About Hampton Plantation State Park

Hampton Plantation is a quiet and tranquil historic place, but in the 18th and 19th centuries it was a working rice plantation that was full of activities. The interpretive programming at this location focuses on the rice culture and plantation system of the lowlands that have shaped the lives of the people of Hampton.

Visitors can explore the property, wander around the grounds, marvel at centuries-old rice fields that once stretched almost to the horizon, or simply stand on the banks of Wambaw Creek and gaze into the mansion that tells the rise and fall of rice culture in the lowlands. Hampton is also a great place to discover the natural beauty of the Santee Delta, inspiring awe and appreciation for the history and culture of South Carolina and its people. African slave workers and park interpreters regularly guide tours of the Hampton Plantation mansions and houses, as well as the plantation itself.

In addition to the Revolutionary War battles that took place in Hampton, many women and children sought refuge on the plantation during the Civil War. This includes the Battle of Hampton Plantation, one of the most important battles in South Carolina history.

Hampton is a good example of the Patriots' life, but have you ever wondered what happened to the rice harvest? Learn how the daily life of plantation workers has changed in summer and autumn. Be sure to sign up at Hampton Plantation and learn how daily life on the plantation changed from summer to fall in the early years of the Revolutionary War.

This healthy morning program focuses on rice on the plantation, so should pique your interest.

Bring insect repellent and water and the programme will be programmed on Saturday and Sunday, July 3 and 4, from 9 am to 12 noon.

The book will focus on the thriving rice fields and the history of the slaves who called Hampton Home. To tell the story of this plantation, you can see the history of the plantation, from its beginnings as a slave plantation to its transformation into a thriving modern industrial complex.

During harvest time, Fanner baskets of freshgrass are used to separate the wheat from the chaff.

We will take you through the process of this lowland tradition and take you back to the old farmhouse to take a look at the history of the farm and its history as a slave plantation.
