The Appomattox Buckham State Forest, one of the largest and most scenic parks in the United States, is located in Piedmont, Virginia, on the eastern edge of the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, north of Charlottesville.

Leisure activities in the park include hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, boating, mountain biking and hiking, to name a few. The general national fisheries rules will apply from 1 June to 30 September, during which time trout must be released immediately and without delay. Only artificial baits and a single hook may be used, without artificial bait and without hook - in - the water hook.

There are two shelters in the forest: one at the entrance to the park and one on the west side of the stream, near the hiking trail. In the woods there are two accommodations: a campground and a picnic area and a campground.

Deer, turkeys and even black bears live in the forest, and the changing oak, hickory and pine forests are teeming. The forest also has several guarded paths and forest roads that can be used by hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, cyclists, motorised vehicles and motorcyclists.

Travellers can also hike in the harvested areas, which are protected and replanted so that nature can take its course. Non-motorised bicycles are allowed on forest roads as are mountain bikers, horseback riders, cyclists and motorised vehicles.
