About Smith Mountain Lake State Park

Smith Mountain Lake State Park is located in the state's second largest freshwater area and is not just for water lovers. The park offers a wide range of hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing, kayaking and hiking trails, as well as hiking and camping opportunities.

It was created in the 1960s when Appalachian Power built a dam on the Roanoke River near Smith Mountain Gap. In 1966 the construction of the dam was completed, and in 1967 the planned park was donated. In the following six years, the state bought up the rest of the park and the park reopened in 1968.

The park opened to the public in 1983, and the park's 500-foot beach opened in the summer of 1989 and is one of North Carolina's most popular beaches and the second largest in South Carolina.

The beach can accommodate up to 1,000 people and is guarded during operating hours, and overnight guests can board for free. No refunds will be made for the cost of swimming, but boats start at $5 per person, $10 per day or $20 per night for overnight stays.

Campers must return their boats from the crowded parking lot to their campsites, and there is no parking for boats in the parking lots at Smith Mountain Lake State Park or on the beach.

Park concessionaires also rent boats for the rest of the year, and a limited number of free boat rentals are available in the park from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

You can purchase your annual boat entry fee by calling 1-800-933-PARK or 721-1639 for $540.

Reservations are not accepted if you want to rent for more than six hours, but reservations can be accepted online or in person at Smith Mountain Lake State Park or the park office.

The lake is fished annually by the Department of Wildlife and Inland Fisheries for musk and striped bass, and a valid Virginia fishing license is required. Smith Mountain Lake offers the opportunity to fish for trout, perch, bluefish, whitefish and other fish species. Picnic areas include drinking water, barbecues and toilets, as well as picnic tables, picnic chairs, tables and chairs.

A small picnic area for up to 50 people is offered by the reservation center at the park's entrance, called the Smith Mountain Lake State Park Reservoir and Recreation Center.

The picnic area is open all year round and nearby there is a large playground, picnic table, picnic chairs, water fountain and picnic tables.

Near the visitor centre there is a small playground with picnic table, picnic chairs, fountains of water and picnic tables and a small picnic area.

Accommodation can be rented and parking and bathing fees are not included in the rental price. For parking fees, please click here for a full list of available parking and parking charges for Smith Mountain Lake.

The park also rents an amphitheater from the park office, and the accommodations can be rented all year round. You can rent every day from 8 am until nightfall, then there is a cancellation fee.

The shelter is visible from the road as it is located on the east side of the park at the entrance to Smith Mountain Lake State Park. This accommodation can accommodate up to 48 people and is accessible by car, bicycle or bus.

There is no electricity or water in this accommodation, but toilets are available and the accommodation has a large barbecue and picnic table. There are 30 or more tables for barbecues in the area, but they are not reserved and all other tables on the property are used by the public.

If you employ a caterer, you must consult with the staff before the event. Parking is available and there is a playground nearby, but there is no parking in the parking lot of Smith Mountain Lake State Park or in any other park.

The park is located on the west side of Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Moneta County, New York.

To get there, take US 460 to Route 122 South inMoneta and then east on Route 608 to the White House. Next, take Route 626 south to the entrance to the park, then take State Route 460 west and east to a parking lot at the southern end.
