About Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which form the western edge of the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Shenandoah River flows through the park, with Massanutten Mountain, which lies between the north and south forks of the river, over 40 miles long.

Hilly Piedmont is located east of the park, with the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west and the Appalachians in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia to the east.

The park includes more than 500 miles of hiking trails, including 101 miles on the Appalachian Trail.

Hiking trails can be followed along the ridges and lead to scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The 120 km long road that winds through the park offers views of the spectacular landscapes to the east and west.

Many animals, including deer, black bears and wild turkeys, thrive in the open spaces of the park, on the paths and in the open water. In spring and summer, the bushes and wild flowers bloom and fill the open space with a variety of plants, trees, grasses, shrubs and other plant species.

The apple trees and stone foundations of the cemetery remind of families who once called this place home. Shenandoah National Park has many stories waiting to be told, and a world of beauty that can renew your mind and bring peace. The nearest airport is Dulles International Airport, a short drive from the park's main entrance.

There are bus, taxi and shuttle services throughout the park, and the maximum speed on Skyline Drive is 35 km / h.
