About Peace Arch State Park

Peace Arch State Park is a 20-hectare park whose use as a park is reminiscent of the treaty agreements of the war of 1812. The park celebrates the unguarded border between the United States and Canada, which stretches from the Strait of Juan de Fuca to Fundy Bay in Nova Scotia.

The 67-foot Arch of Peace is jointly maintained by the United States and Canada, both countries co-owners of the monument. The huge concrete arch spans the border between the two nations and is one of only a handful of monuments in the country.

The concrete structure is underpinned by the construction of a concrete bridge over the river and a series of tunnels and tunnels underground.

Construction began in 1920 and was completed on 6 September 1921, and the arch commemorates the signing of the peace treaty between the United States and Great Britain in 1812. The treaty, signed by the King of England and President Monroe, provides for the protection of US interests in the South Atlantic and Atlantic. This treaty was the result of a war between Britain and America during the Civil War of 1811-12 and between Britain and France during World War II.

Heading north on I-5, take Exit 276, the last exit before crossing into Canada, and head south. The park has camping areas and the hotel is located on the south side of the park in the parking lot near the car wash, north of Interstate 5.
