About Crown Point State Park
The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom, and in fact Emma Lazarus, who wrote her poem, was a brother and sister. Crown Point is one of the most popular attractions in Columbia River Gorge State Park. When millions of visitors descend the Columbia River Gorge from Portland, turn the corner at Exit 22 in Corbett and see the famous building on the cliff to your right, you will notice. This building is the Vista House and therefore serves as a symbol for Columbian Gorge, the largest national park in North America.
It was designed as a refreshment and entertainment spot in Columbia Gorge and was built as the only way to reach Crown Point from Corbett.
The octagonal building with its copper dome houses the Crown Point State Park Visitor Center and its Visitor Center. The popular Cliff-Top lookout has been restored for $3.2 million to repair and rejuvenate its most important historical features. It is open from March to October and open to the public from April to September and from October to December.
