About Bridgeport State Park

Bridgeport State Park is located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, north of the city of Bridgeton and south of New Haven. Directly opposite the Chief Joseph Dam, the Columbia River, the lake is actually a section of the Columbia River.

Nestled in the middle of the desert, Bridgeport State Park offers lake meadows and shade and is close to Chief Joseph Dam. The park offers a variety of activities such as hiking, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, picnicking and camping, as well as picnic areas.

The park has a unique volcanic formation, the haystack, a basalt structure that looks like a giant haystack in the distance. The park offers seasonal programs with many themes such as hiking, canoeing, fishing, kayaking, camping and more.

Ralph Van Slyke created the Valley of the Park and Chief Joseph Dam in the early 1960s with the most common garden tools. Van Syke is a retired U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employee and founder of Bridgeport State Park.

The park is named after the town of Bridgeport, which was called Westfield from 1881 to 1889. In 1889, J. Covert, a Bridgeport Connecticut resident, came west to inspect a railroad line and renamed it Westfield after his hometown.

The park was built as a campground for the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and has been self-contained ever since. The Corps is associated with the park under a dam management contract that requires the Corps to rebuild the recreation area.

The maximum length of a website can be limited to 45 feet, possibly due to limited availability, or the maximum length of each website.

As the park is heavily used, mid-week is the recommended time to find a free campsite. The park offers group camps for 20 - 72 people and a single camp site for up to 12 people. These campsites are located on sunbathing lawns and under many shady trees and are served first.

Fees vary depending on the size of the group, with a minimum of $5 per person for a single campsite and $10 per day for group camps.

An annual pass can be bought in the park as long as you have behaved in the parks and there are staff. Tips for trailers ($5 per day for individual campsites and $10 for group campsites) are available in all parks. Staff are also available on site during the day and evening from 10 am to 5 pm.

Fishing is possible all year round, but trout fishing is picking up speed depending on the wind conditions. From July to October, a picnic table with 20 'is offered every day from 10 am to 5 pm.

The US Army Corps of Engineers interprets this program, which is usually held on Saturdays during the summer season. Topics include the history of Bridgeport State Park, its history, history and culture, and the current state of the park.

The lake is rich in rainbow trout, silverfish and whales, but most of the fishing is done in summer, with coastal fishing required. Most fishing can be done on the coast, although some coastal fishing is required for catching small fish such as bluefin, bluefin tuna, redfish and whitefish.

Travel north on Highway 17 for approximately one mile to Bridgeport State Park, then south on Interstate 95 for approximately one mile. Located on the north side of the park at the intersection of Route 17 and Highway 18.
