About Iron Horse State Park

Iron Horse State Park is a 1,612-acre park that was once home to Iron Horse Falls, one of the largest and most famous horse farms in the United States. The Hochbuck offers spectacular views over the valley below and the park offers a variety of activities, from horseback riding to hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding, hiking and more.

The park is open all year round for daily use and winter sports, but the Snoqualmie Pass tunnel will close for the year on November 1. The tunnel is due to reopen on June 1, and the park on June 2, 2017.

Parking permits are required from 15 November to 30 April, from 1 March to 31 March 2017 and from 2 April to 1 June 2017.

At West Thorp, the path cuts through sandstone deposits and descends to the foot of the mountain. In the cascades it cuts into basalt deposits and exposes large cliffs that rise above it, as well as large boulders.

The railroad operated from 1908 until the 1980s, when the company filed for bankruptcy and most of the country was acquired by the state Department of Natural Resources. The right path was originally intended to build a new railway line from West Thorp to the top of the Eisenpferdeberg, but the remains of an old railway still exist. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, they transferred the land to state parks, which continued to acquire land and make improvements in the area.

Most of the offer consists of a few kilometres on both sides of this route, which is bordered by the Iron Horse Mountain, the Iron Horse Trail and a small section of road.

Camping is also possible at the US Forest Service campground on the north side of the trail, south of Iron Horse Mountain. On the way there is a short stretch of road to the east and a few kilometres of hiking trail along the west side. There are two campgrounds, Roaring Fork Campground and Roar Mountain Campgrounds, both within a few hours "drive of the park's main entrance in the city of El Paso.

Check-in is at 14: 30, check-out is at 13: 00, quiet times are 22: 00 - 06: 30, and the length of your stay is extended. The Roaring Fork Campground is equipped with motorized electric generators with a maximum capacity of 1,000 people per day. You can stay up to three days at Roar Mountain Campgrounds or as long as you like at Iron Horse State Park, but only if you stay at one of the two campsites.
