About Ponce De Leon Springs State Park

Visitors can regain their youth on a trip to Ponce de Leon Springs, where the water temperature is consistently 68 degrees Fahrenheit all year round. This beautiful spring is named after Juan Ponte deLeon, who led the first Spanish expedition to Florida, as legend has it. The main source is two underground watercourses that produce 14 million gallons of water daily.

Visitors can hike on the self-guided nature trails and learn about the local ecology and wildlife. Rangers also run seasonal hikes, and visitors can also hike the Ponce de Leon Trail, a 1.5 km self-guided nature trail through the national park.

Picnics are a popular pastime in the park, with barbecues and gazebos available, and fishermen will be able to catch a variety of fish such as tuna, mackerel, shrimp, crabs, crabs and other fish.

Since the mid-1920s, Ponte de Leon Springs State Park has been used for all kinds of social events.

The park's grounds were purchased to provide outdoor recreation and reflection for Florida residents and visitors.

The property was once owned by the Smithgall family, who erected a wooden retaining wall in the spring of 1926 to prevent erosion. The concrete wall was replaced in 1953, but it still exists today as part of the Ponte de Leon Springs State Park.

The terrain consists mainly of rolling hills, floodplains, forests and marshes, followed by a series of rivers and streams, some of which flow into the Ponte de Leon and its tributaries. The headwaters are connected to the main stream that runs through the park on its way to Lake Okeechobee and the Gulf of Mexico.

The refreshing feeling of youth follows the spring bath, even if you may not have set foot in the water or have become young. The youth conquers the cool, crystal clear water, which bathes It is young in the spring, where the water temperatures are consistently above 68 degrees.

You may not come to the disciples, but the water will certainly revive you, and the park has large bathrooms and changing rooms for your convenience.

Fishing is allowed in areas not intended for swimming, but otherwise throw your fishing rod at the corks to see if your efforts are rewarded with a catfish or a bite of chain pan. On closer inspection, you can actually see the fish coming to the bait, and if you have the courage to splash into the cool spring water, it is time for lunch.

Around 20 hectares have been upgraded for visitors, four picnic shelters and barbecue areas are available. Grills are also welcome to prepare special dishes, but there is plenty of space on site for those who want to spend the day swimming and relaxing in the park, as well as picnicking.

The rangers also offer seasonal guided hikes, but also self-guided tours are possible. The path leads through a variety of native plants and animals, where you can listen to the sounds of flowing streams, birds, animals and birds of prey. The trail offers many opportunities to reach viewpoints such as the Ponte de Leon Spring Trail on foot, but also passes a number of wildlife areas with a great biodiversity.
