About Miami County State Park

Miami State Fishing Lake is a 100-acre watershed bounded to the east and west by the Miami River, Miami Creek and Florida River. Miami State Lake has been managed since 1931 as a 90-acre duck swamp managed by a private group of athletes. The board of directors of the Miami County State Park Board of Directors and Kansas State Parks bought the lake to use it as the state's fishing lake.

The lake was renovated in 2001 and the restoration included the restoration of existing fish stocks, habitats and fish stocks. The first stockings contained a 1,500-pound perch, a 2,000-pound trout and a 4,200-pound trout.

Today, Miami Wildlife Area is a 101-acre state fishing lake with wooded slopes and surrounded by the Marais des Cygnes River. For the users of the lake there are vaulted cabins, picnic areas, picnic tables, picnic areas and a boat ramp. A variety of water sports, such as canoeing, boating, kayaking and fishing, are available to all users.

The wildlife in the area includes white deer, elk, elk, coyote, bald eagle and other wildlife. The steep wooded slopes are home to many birds of prey, including owls, hawks, owls and even an eagle, which often sits on one of the steepest slopes in the Miami Wildlife Area, about 1,000 feet above sea level.

The Miami State Lake Wildlife Area is located on the west side of Miami Lake, east of the Miami River and west of Interstate 69. The easiest access is from Interstate 69 at 359th Street, or from Interstate 69 take Highway West to 359TH Street and park at the park entrance.
