About Fairview Riverside State Park

In the park you will find a treetop with huge oaks scattered everywhere, as well as a large number of wild flowers and other native plants.

Spend a relaxing afternoon on the river or venture out into the water to relax outdoors. Freshwater fishing on the shore or in a boat is an unparalleled pleasure even for the casual angler. Freshwater fishing along the lake, where rivers meet lakes, produces some of the best fish in the state, as well as a variety of other fish species. Crayfish are also popular on lakes and rivers, and freshwater fish such as bluefish, bluefish, salmon, trout, mackerel, redfish and trout are plentiful.

Built in the late 18th century on the site of a former train station in New Orleans, Louisiana, the Otis House is one of the oldest houses in Fairview River State Park. Later it was bought and renovated by Frank Otes in 1930 and served as a summer house until his death in 1962. Mr. Otises left the property to the state of Louisiana to develop it into a recreational area for visitors.

In 1999, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places, and it was Otis's wish to keep the name of his Fairview Riverside home as the park's name. The name says it all, because in the 99-hectare park that surrounds it, nature lovers will find numerous opportunities to appreciate the nature of the riverbank.

Built in the early 20th century as a summer home on the banks of Fairview Riverside State Park, the Otis House is one of the oldest houses in New Orleans, Louisiana. The house was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, and later, in 1930, it was bought and renovated by Frank Otes and considered a "summer house" until his death in 1962.
