About Dinosaur Valley State Park

Dinosaur Valley State Park, located northwest of Glen Rose in Somervell County, is one of the largest state parks in the US state of California. The land for the park was purchased by private owners in 1968 under the state's Parks Bonds Program and opened to the public in 1972.

The geological backdrop of the park is formed by limestone, sandstone and clay deposits deposited in a series of layered rock formations along the Paluxy River, the largest river in the United States. Over the last millions of years, these strata have been broken down and formed into robust soils that have subsided in many places and eroded considerable rock deposits on the PaluxY River floor.

The terrain is wooded, hilly and semi-rocky, and the Paluxy River flows through this area. Plant drainage from the PaluxY River beds in the park as well as through a series of small streams and ponds.

The plateaus are home to a large number of trees, mainly in the lower parts of the plateau, which are mainly bordered by grasses, shrubs and grassland, as well as a number of small ponds and streams. Plateaus are created by supporting a range of vegetation such as pine, oak, birch, elm, pine, oak, pineapple, clover, ferns, hickory, cedar, spruce, hazelnut, beech, willow, orchard, birch, eucalyptus, rhododendron and fir.

The area is home to many native and migratory birds, including the endangered Golden Warbler and the Black-headed Vireo, as well as many species of birds of prey. Waterfowl are occasionally seen in ponds and reservoirs, and the forest consists of well-irrigated areas along the rivers.

Mammals living in this environment include birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds of prey, reptiles and amphibians. There are also several species of lizards and snakes in the area, as well as a large number of birds and mammals.

A bird checklist is available at the park's headquarters, and the Somervell County butterfly checklist provides information about local butterflies.

Water is available on the way, but users must bring their own horses and overnight accommodation. In the primitive areas of the South, only day rides are allowed, and there are no backpacker campgrounds located in the southern and northern primitive areas of the park or just a few kilometers from the main entrance.

In the headquarters there is a honor box, in which fees can be collected during office hours. The park is about 4 km west of Glen Rose and nearby attractions include the Dinosaur Valley State Park Museum and the Denton County Museum of Natural History. Take US Highway 67 to FM 205, then FM205 to the parking lot entrance at the southern end of the parking lot.
