About Fort Columbia State Park

Fort Columbia State Park is the perfect place to relax a day from your daily job or even just take a weekend trip to the city of Columbia. The park celebrates Fort Columbia, a military site that formed the Columbia River.

The fort was completely occupied by the US Army and the United States Army Corps of Engineers during the Civil War. The area was also inhabited by Indian tribes such as the Comcomly Indians, the Columbia River Valley Indians and the Indians. In the late 19th and early 20th century, the fortress occupied a large area along the river and its tributaries.

Fort Columbia is a protected area within Fort Columbia State Park in Columbia County, Oregon, USA. The park offers a beautiful view of the mouth of the Columbia River, and other features within the park include a scenic view, a waterfall, an amphitheater and a State Park pathway system.

Two historic buildings are for rent, and vacation homes can be rented year-round - around the globe for $1,000 a month or $2,500 a year for a two-bedroom cottage.

Fort Columbia is a protected area and was built to support the defense of the Columbia River during World War II. The fort is located on Chinook Point, a promontory with unobstructed views, and is one of the few protected areas in Washington State.

At the end of World War II, the fort was declared obsolete and transferred to the care of Washington State in 1950. Since then it has been a state park, and twelve historic half-timbered houses still stand on the site.

Most services are available at Fort Columbia State Park except for a limited number of days - use facilities such as campgrounds, toilets and picnic areas.

The park offers educational trails and information about the various fortifications and an interpretation center with an emphasis on the history of Fort Columbia and its history as a military base. The park has 25 unprotected picnic tables, which serve as "first come, first served" and has campsites on the campsites of the park and in a number of other areas of the national park.
