About Fort Canby State Park

The park offers scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding islands, as well as a variety of wildlife and habitats including birds, birds of prey and wildlife.

The park offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding islands, as well as a variety of wildlife habitats. The park has an ancient, growing forest with a variety of tree species and shrubs, and visitors enjoy exploring an area rich in natural and cultural history.

The park is open all year round - for tent and day - and Fort Canby Community Center has three apartments, six of which can be rented.

In 1788, the English captain John Meares missed crossing the bar in search of the Columbia River and called the nearby Cape disappointed without finding the river. In 1792, the American captain Robert Gray successfully crossed the river's bar and named it after his friend Fort Canby.

Only a few years later, in 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition reached Cape Disruption, which was reached by Lewis & Clark's expedition. The Cape Fault lighthouse was built to warn sailors of the treacherous River Bar, then known as the Pacific Cemetery. It is the oldest functioning lighthouse on the West Coast and the only one of its kind in the USA

Cape Disruption was armed with rifle-drilling cannons during the American Civil War and World War II to protect the mouth of the Columbia River from the enemy.

The fort was named after General Edward Canby, who was killed in the Indian War of the Modoc, and until 1875 the fort was extended to Fort Can. The fortress was further improved at the end of the Second World War and there is still a rifle battery in the park.

The maximum length of the course is 45 feet (possibly subject to limited availability) and Cape Disruption behaves. The Park Shop offers a variety of camping equipment and other things needed for the life of a camper, such as camping equipment, camping accessories and camping accessories.

Book your campsite in advance at the Park Shop or by calling 1-888-762-4357 for more information about the camping facilities of the park.

The day use area has 20 unprotected picnic tables that are first available, come and serve and staff provide. Annual tickets can be purchased at the Park Shop or by calling 1-888-762-4357 while they are on site. In Baker Bay and on the Columbia River, there is a boat ramp and 150-meter jetty. Boat moorings and boat moorings as well as boat parking and parking are available throughout the park, but not always at peak times.

Events in the park take place at the weekend from 12 noon to 4 pm and on weekdays from 1 pm to 5 pm at the same time. Fishermen have a permit to use the boat ramp and jetty at Baker Bay and on the Columbia River at Fort Canby.

The most important natural areas nearby include the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River and the Long Beach Peninsula and its tributaries. Swimming in the sea or on the long beach of the Long Beach Peninsula is not recommended and is a danger for all swimmers.

The hotel is located on the west side of the park, in the parking lot of Fort Canby State Park, at the intersection of Interstate 5 and the Columbia River.

The I-5 will take you from Olympia to Seattle South, then west on the SR-4, north to Longview and then south to the Long Beach Peninsula. From there, head west along the Columbia River on the US Highway, west of Fort Canby State Park, south of the park.

Follow signs from Ilwaco to the park and then head south on the SR-4 to Fort Canby State Park, which you will follow at the end of the road.
