About Saltwater State Park

Saltwater State Park is located about halfway between the city of Tacoma and Seattle. The city is buried under a thick layer of snow and ice, and only a few hundred meters of fresh water is available.

The park offers beautiful views and wildlife observation, and features tidal pools with marine life, including salmon spawning waters in McSorley Creek. There is an artificial underwater reef for divers, and the park is located on the edge of Puget Sound, just a few miles from the city of Tacoma.

The park offers a variety of activities such as hiking, fishing, kayaking, kayaking and canoeing, as well as a range of other activities.

The park's inauguration in 1926 was an attempt to end bad feelings between the cities of Tacoma and Seattle. The park is about halfway between these two cities, and somewhere in the park a war axe is symbolically buried under a rock.

Much of the park we see today was built in the 1930s, but the park's Civilian Conservation Corp. has had its share of problems over the years.

The usual rest area is located at McSorley Gorge next to the creek, but the maximum length of the course is 60 feet, possibly due to limited availability. The park is located on the flight path of Seatac Airport, and the planes take off from the park every 15 minutes at certain times. To inform yourself, the site provides a list of all the major airports in the state, as well as the number of flights in and out.

Check-in is at 14: 30, check-out is at 13: 00, and the quiet hours are 22 - 00 and 06 - 30. Motor-powered electric generators operate during the day and at night, with the exception of the early morning and late night hours. If you first stay at the first campsite, the length of your stay will be extended, but you will have to stay at least one day longer than the other campsites.

In the park, at the entrance to the parking lot on the west side of the road, near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 2, there is a café and an express stand.

Most picnic areas are near the beach and McSorley Creek, but the park has a few reserved kitchens and shelters for camping, as well as picnic tables and benches. Most of these services are available in the few miles around the parks, and some are reserved for special occasions such as weddings, funerals or other special occasions.

The park has an artificial underwater reef in Puget Sound, which is often used for diving and fishing, as well as other recreational activities.

The park offers three hiking trails and a bike path and is located in an approach corridor to a major airport. The park is often noisy, due to its proximity to the airport and its location in the city center, north of downtown.

The entrance to the park is one block to the left and is located on the south side of S. 252, north of the intersection of South Main Street. Take S-252 southbound, turn right onto the road, then left onto Dr. Exit 149 to go north or south of I-5 and turn left onto S.-252.
