About Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park

The Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park is one of the largest state parks in the United States and the second largest in North America. The park has a freshwater coastline of 27,000 feet, with the Wanapum Reservoir on the Columbia River.

The Ginkgo Petrified Forest is a registered national natural monument and is considered one of the most important natural monuments in the United States. The petrified wood was first discovered in 1854, which led to the creation of a park and a national historical reserve.

When the remains of the fossil forest were discovered during the construction of a highway in the 1930s, the park was designated a historical reserve. The petrified wood of many different trees is widespread throughout the region, but specimens of petrified ginkgo are rare. Many construction sites owe their origins to the work of civil defence in 1930, and many of them date from that time.

The Wanapum recreational area has 50 pitches with two toilets, and both sides have full connections, with a total of four toilets and two showers per pitch.

The maximum length of the site is 60 feet, possibly due to limited availability, and tenants are allowed to use the space but must pay the full fee.

The campsite is exposed to strong winds, especially in the evenings, and campers should secure tents and light items.

The park is used extensively during the Gorge concert season, and the grounds are well filled early in the weekend. The park has been extensively used for gorge concerts throughout the season by local bands, the local community and local businesses.

Check-in is 14: 30, check-out is 13: 00, quiet times are 22: 00 and 06: 30, but the length of your stay will be extended. Motor-powered electric generators can be operated for up to 12 hours a day, seven days a week, from 15 May to 14 September. If you book a campsite between May 15th and September 15th, you can stay as long as you like, up to six days a week or just two weeks.

Most services are available within 30 miles of the park, except for emergency services such as emergency medical services and fire services.

There are no boat moorings or two ramps in the park, but there is a boat mooring and two off ramps. In and around the parks there is a parking lot for vehicles with overturned trailers and trailers and a parking garage.

Staff are available and annual passes can be purchased at the park for $5 per person or $10 for a family of four.

The park has an interpretation centre and is heavily used during the Gorge concert season and fills up early weekends. There are 57 unprotected picnic tables that come, come and be served first, and there is a large picnic area with a variety of food and drinks for those who come to serve.

The opening hours vary according to the season and group tours are only possible by prior arrangement, with the times varying by day and hour.
