About Fort Flagler State Park

Fort Flagler State Park is a 784-acre marine camping park surrounded on three sides by a saltwater coastline. The park rests on high rocks overlooking Puget Sound and offers views of the Olympic Games and Cascade Mountains.

A military fortress from the 19th century, many historic buildings have been preserved and the historic fortress offers a rifle battery for exploring and guiding through the heritage. The surrounding mountains and Puget Sound, as well as the Olympic Games and Cascade Mountains, contribute to the attractions.

From 13 May, the park will be open for daily use all year round, but the toilets in the lower beach area will remain closed.

Fort Flagler guarded the entrance to Puget Sound during World War II as part of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. The post, erected in the late 1890s, became the focal point of a fortification system designed to prevent enemy fleets from reaching the port city of Seattle, then the largest city in Washington state.

At the end of the road, follow the route directly into the park and continue for another 3.5 miles until you leave Oak Bay Road and turn left onto Ness Corner Road, which will take you for 3 miles.
